He first became interested in dancing at a family reunion camping trip in Colorado. He started a dance crew with his friends in 1999.

Poppin John’s real name is John Wesley Austin. He was born in Farmington, New Mexico. He moved to Los Angles in 2013 and is married to Bris Austin.
